FBOL

A few months ago I started writing a post about why I’ve come to hate Facebook. As is typical for me, I never finished it. It just took up space in my drafts folder and became an occasional source of mild frustration. Yesterday I heard someone sum up what I was trying to say in one sentence: Facebook is the new AOL.

This assertion was made by Doc Searls in the most recent episode of This Week in Law, and I completely agree. From the horrible interface, to the company’s desire to be everything to everyone, to the overwhelming amount of noise drowning out everything, Facebook Web2.0-ifies AOL perfectly. There’s really nothing more to say.
